Robert E. Barry

Robert Barry has been a member of the professional interior design industry for more than 35 years. Beginning his studies in architecture, Mr. Barry found that he favored the human-scale elements of the building interior, and decided to focus his studies on interior design. Mr. Barry attended the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, from which he graduated with honors.

After founding Barry Design Associates in 1980, Mr. Barry specialized in hospitality design and has been able to lead Barry Design Associates to the top levels of that industry. In 1995, Mr. Barry was honored by Hospitality Design Magazine with the “Platinum Circle Award” for design excellence. The Imperial Hotel Osaka, Japan and the flagship Nikko Hotel Tokyo, Japan brought BDA Gold Key Awards in 1997 and again in 1999 for the Villa La Cupola Suite at the Excelsior Hotel, Rome, Italy along with finalist status in both the Suites and Restaurant categories for the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. In 2003, BDA was the Grand Prize Winner of the Gold Key Award for Sun City Kashiwa, Japan.

Mr. Barry serves as president and principal designer of BDA, and has worked to keep the size of his organization to be large enough to cope with the most complex projects, while not so large that he would not be able to deal personally with the client and generate the design himself. He is proud to note that over ninety percent of his work has come via referral. Along with a reputation for excellence, he has built up an experienced and multi-talented staff from diverse backgrounds, speaking more than eight languages, which has proved to be a great asset for all international projects.
